Parse is a mobile backend-as-a-service, offered previously offered as a hosted solution, until acquired by Facebook and made into an open source offering. The open source parse server can be deployed on many cloud environments and may be configured in a HIPAA compliant manner on public cloud services such as Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Once Parse is hosted on a cloud service, your organization must implement administrative and technical safeguards as defined under the cloud “Shared Responsibility” model, in order to maintain HIPAA compliance.
